چکیده

Studies with Ehrlich ascites tumor cells showed that small decreases in the pH of the incubation medium from 7.4 increase the magnitude of incorporation of free fatty acid (FFA) into the cells from an albumin solution. A similar effect occurred when rabbit erythrocytes, rat heart slices, or rat liver slices were incubated with FFA-bovine albumin solutions and when tumor cells were incubated with FFA in media containing human albumin, -lactoglobulin, or rat plasma. The effect was not seen when the medium contained no protein. When the pH of the albumin-containing medium was lowered from 7.4 to 6.6, oxidation of FFA to CO(2) by the tumor cells increased, esterification of the FFA (mostly into phospholipids and triglycerides) increased, and less esterified radio-active fatty acid was depleted from the cells. Hence, more fatty acid accumulated in the cells in more acid media. These findings suggest that small changes in extracellular pH might regulate FFA utilization and lipid accumulation in mammalian tissues.

Utilization of free fatty acids complexed to human plasma lipoproteins by mammalian cell suspensions.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether lipoprotein-bound free fatty acid could be utilized by isolated mammalian cells. Ehrlich ascites tumor cells were incubated in vitro with radioactive free fatty acids that were bound to human plasma lipoproteins. Under these conditions, lipoprotein-bound free fatty acids were readily taken up by the cells. After 2 min of incubation with free fa...

The Effects of Simvastatin on Free Fatty Acids Profile in Fructose-fed Insulin Resistant Rats

Backgrounds: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease and free fatty acids, as signaling molecules, can play a crucial role in the development of it. Different free fatty acids, through various cell membrane receptors, induce different effects on metabolic pathways and thereby affect insulin sensitivity. Simvastatin is a cholesterol decreasing drug prescrib...

Expression Levels of PPARγ and CYP-19 in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Primary Granulosa Cells: Influence of ω-3 Fatty Acid

Background The omega-3 fatty acid (ω-3 fatty acid) such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is currently used in the clinic as a nutritional supplement in the treatment of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). The present study was designed to investigate the effect of EPA on the expression levels of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and cytochrome P450 aromatase (encoded by the...

Effect of Nitrogen deficiency and light intensity on the fatty acid composition of Chaetoceros calcitrans

Marine diatoms are important sources of fat and fatty acids that are considered for aquaculture and alternative energy sources, and under varying environmental conditions in algae. In order to influence the nitrogen deficiency and light intensity of the medium culture on the C.calcitrans fatty acid composition, algae was exposed to 4 nitrogen treatments (25,50,75 and 100% nitrogen) and light in...

Influence of storage conditions on quality and viability of high and low oleic sunflower seeds

Storage conditions of oil seeds before industrial extraction might influence the quality of the crude oil. The aim of present study was to clarify the storage able potency of high and low oleic cultivars of sunflower based on oil and fatty acid changes of seeds and their viability. The seed samples of four sunflower cultivars (two high oleic and two low oleic) were stored in three different tem...
